Advanced Financial Markets
Here are other markets other than the stock market for savvy investors as even the best forex trading gains pale in comparison to rapid stock growth. The first type is the futures market.
A futures market is a market in which people trade contracts for future delivery of securities such as government bonds, commodities such as gold or a barrel of oil in relation to the value of securities such as the value of the S&P 500 stock index in the cash market. The futures contract delivery date is a future time when the contract is scheduled to be settled by the exchange of cash for the contracted goods. Futures contracts traded on organized exchanges such as the Chicago Board of Trade and each contract is standardized in terms of delivery amounts, instruments and dates. The futures exchange guarantees contract negotiation through its auspices.
Given that the market is the options market. Option markets trade option contracts that call for conditional future delivery of a security, a commodity, or a futures contract. Option contracts call for one party called the option writer to perform a specific act if called upon by the option buyer or owner such as buying 100 shares of AT&T stock at a price of $80 per share on the third Friday in January 2015. Options contracts on securities are traded on major organized exchanges such as the Chicago Board of Exchange, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, and the American Stock Exchange.
The other type of market is the foreign exchange market. Foreign exchange market is the market in which foreign currencies are bought and sold. Foreign currencies such as the British pound, Japanese yen, the euro or the Swiss franc traded against the US dollar or are traded against other foreign currencies. Foreign currencies are traded either for spot or for delivery over the counter at large virtual banks or investment banking firms. Paying heed to economic news is the one of the best forex trading tips that a trader can follow. Futures contracts for foreign currency are traded on organized exchanges such as the Chicago Mercantile exchange. So if you’re not happy losing you money in the stock market there are many other venues for you to throw your money at.
California company recalls 34,000 pounds of organic beef over E. coli concerns
Hawthorne, CA, United States (AHN) – A California company has issued a recall for more than 34,000 pounds of organic ground beef suspected of being contaminated by E. coli, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday.
Hawthorne, CA-based First Class Foods, Inc., said the affected products were produced on Dec. 7 and 16 for sale in California, Washington state, Wisconsin, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina.
The FSIS said the packages have “EST. 18895″ printed on them, as well as the identifying pack date of 10341 and 10350 Julian date.
Neither the company nor the government has received any reports of illnesses linked to the ground beef. However, samples tested positive for E. coli.
E. coli can cause dehydration and diarrhea with severe cases resulting in kidney failure and death. People with weak immune systems, including babies and senior citizens are most vulnerable.
The following products are under recall:
- 16-oz. packages of “Nature’s Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick” sold singly with “Use or Freeze by” dates of 12/30/10 or 01/08/11.

Nets take issue with LeBron’s contraction comments
Newark, NJ, United States (AHN Sports) – Although he denied supporting the idea for contraction in the NBA, LeBron James’ statements have reportedly offended the Nets.
The Nets, along with Minnesota, were singled out by James as candidates for being cut loose by the team, though LeBron later denied knowing what contracted entailed.
In his unsolicited comments last week when he indicated that the league would be better off with fewer franchises, the Heat star forward also singled out Nets guard Devin Harris as one of the players to be dispersed among the NBA.
James also mentioned Kevin Love and Brook Lopez as part of his examples.
Meanwhile, Harris indicated that he is against contraction.
“For him to talk about us specifically, it was a little offensive,” Harris told the New York Daily News Tuesday. “But from a business standpoint, to know what’s best – we’re still trying to figure this out.”
Nets coach Avery Johnson, on the other hand, who was more confrontational compared to Harris’ response, said via the Daily News: “I disagree. Maybe the league would be better off without three stars on one team.”
Nets veteran forward Troy Murphy, who was also against contraction, told the Daily News, “I think the NBA is a great thing, it’s an honor to play in the NBA and I don’t think we should contract.”
The reigning two-time NBA MVP James later came out and denied that he had any support for the idea of contraction, claiming Monday the he was misinterpreted and didn’t know what “contraction” meant.

Editorial: Doctors Should Inform Patients About Lack Of Sleep
Boston, MA, United States (AHN) – A recent editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine argues that doctors should have to disclose to patients how much sleep they have had before performing elective surgery.
Doctors with Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital wrote that sleep deprivation impairs psychomotor performance as much as alcohol intoxication. The authors cite a 2009 study that suggested a significant increase in risk of complications in patients who underwent elective daytime surgery performed by doctors who had less than a six-hour opportunity for sleep during a previous on-call night.
Also, the authors argue that people who are sleep-deprived are often not able to accurately assess their degree of impairment.
“Sleep deprivation affects clinical performance. It increases the risks of complications. And it is clear from survey data that patients would want to be informed if their physician was sleep deprived and that most patients would request a different provider,” author Dr. Michael Nurok wrote.
But some doctors and patients may be unhappy with an “informed consent” surgical policy for several reasons, including: patients may have made logistical provisions for their surgery and may be unhappy ithey have to reorganize their schedule again; doctors may lose cases to colleagues, which would result in lost income; and departments and hospitals may lose income if patients go somewhere else for their treatment.
